Mercury in retrograde? Never mind – must read!

Jilly Cooper - but we already knew that.
How excited, btw, are we devoted fans to know that we have a new book, imaginitively entitled JUMP! to look forward to –
I have already pre-ordered my copy and am in the process of loading all JC’s books onto my new Kindle.

Stieg Larsson
We already knew that too. How beyond fabulous is both the characterisation of Lisbeth Salander in the book – and the realisation of that character inthe Swedish film by Noomi Rapace.
If they replace this actress in the Hollywood version there truly is no justice in the world – Utterly compelling? Breathtaking? No. Noomi Rapace is a lot better than that.

If you can stand a little gruesome with your porridge I can’t recommend Simon Beckett’S Chemistry of Death highly enough –
This is a spine-tingling read with two further equally excellent books to complete the trilogy
But I should warn you, the maggot count is high – so maybe choose a different breakfast cereal…
Simon Beckett is an absolutely brilliant writer – and here’s what he has to say about his own work –

“I gave up trying to write books and dabbled in freelance features for newspapers before a trip for a magazine six years ago to what is known as the ‘body farm’ in Tennessee,” said Beckett.

And thank goodness he gave it another try. How one decision can change a life.

So, what’s the connection with Mercury in retrograde?

This troublesome planet comes out of retrograde on the 12th of this month – so wait and send your manuscripts on Monday :-)

But nothing, not even that pesky planet must make us forget that the joy of reading we take for granted isn’t avalable to everyone – and that today is Literacy Day. Let’s do everything we can to support the agencies who help, and to offer help ourselves as my mother did tirelessly until she died, visiting women in their own homes to share her love of the written word
