Sublime

Hard hats all round! Virgin For Sale is back!!!

And now onto matters sublime…
Last night I was rejoicing in a packed audience under the roof of Huddersfield Town Hall, listening to the truly sublime Huddersfield Choral Society under the baton of the unsurpassed and unsurpassable- at least in my view- Jane Glover, in a performance of Handel’s Messiah.

What a sound that choir makes- rich and vibrant doesn’t even begin to cover it- the tone and dynamics- the articulation, both of rhythm and words- if I sound like a devoted fan, well, I am. It was vibrant, and certain sections of the Messiah can be rendered dirge-like if taken at too slow a pace- no chance of that with Ms Glover in charge- Knock ten minutes off the performance time, one audience member told me with a grin- ten minutes off or not, this is the performance I would choose every time.

The soloists, Lucy Crowe, Soprano, Catherine Wyn-Rogers, Mezzo Soprano, Adrian Thompson, Tenor and Neal Davies, Bass, were without exception a joy to listen to.

The Northern Sinfonia was luminous in tone and interpretation, and of course, massive helpings of praise to the choir’s fabulous chorus master, Joseph Cullen, who played the harpsichord during the performance, and to Simon Lindley who was both a masterful and sensitive organist.

Do I sound as if I enjoyed the evening?

A million thanks to the Lady president of the society and my good friend, who invited me as her guest- even the supper afterwards excelled anything I had expected. And to be in the middle of members of that choir when they sang grace was an experience I shall never forget. All in all, it was a memorable night and a tradition I intend to build into my Christmas calendar from now on.

And to top it all I had another book accepted today so I really am on cloud nine!
Welcome, Italian Boss, Proud Miss Prim, an October 2009 release for Mills & Boon Modern Romance.

My very warmest wishes to everyone,

Suexx
